Job description

Facility: Valleywise Health Medical Center

Department: Health Info Mgt - Coding

Schedule: Regular FT 40 Hours Per Week

Shifts: Days

Under the direction of the Sr. Coding Manager, this position is entirely remote. It will perform Oncology Data Specialist registry responsibilities that comply with the regulations set forth by the Commission on Cancer and Arizona Reporting Requirements. This position will include research, analysis, and reporting of collected data compiled by documentation in the medical record. Responsible for maintaining databases of cancer information that are used to research cancer prevention and treatment methods. These activities can be conducted by examining records to detect cancer earlier, improve treatments, and increase survival rates. The examination of medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for cancer registry will be performed.
Hourly Pay Rate:$24.00 - $35.40
This opportunity is 100% remote.
Qualifications
Education:
    Requires a high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
    Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience as an Oncology Data Specialist.
    Prefers experience with Rocky Mountain Software.
Specialized Training:
    Must have Cancer Registry training.
Certification/Licensure:
    Must be certified as an Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C), formerly Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
    Requires the ability to operate a computer in a Windows environment.
    Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing, including knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    Requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality standards.
    Initiative, independent thinking, and problem-solving skills are strongly preferred.
    Works independently under limited supervision.
    Knowledge of American College of Surgeons Program Standards for an approved cancer program.
    Requires the ability to interpret and comprehend information contained within the patient's medical record (e.g. terminology, disease process, procedures, etc.), to review pathology reports and medical/health records discharge analysis, demonstrate a working knowledge of International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-0) coding principles, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program extent of disease staging principles and Collaborative Staging as created by the Collaborative Staging Task Force of the American Joint Committee on Cancer.
