Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks an Employee in Charge (EIC) to deliver essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Jacksonville, FL.

The role emphasizes field safety leadership and daily reporting. The EIC will coordinate with dispatchers and train crews, enforce policies, manage site briefings, and travel extensively (50%–85% of the time) to support ongoing railroad operations.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to travel for extended periods; months at a time.
• Valid Driver's License.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department.
• Ability to successfully complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Specific Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety such as setup of derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report any rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews to communicate worksite safety status.
• Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
