Job summary

Arcadis seeks a Resident Engineer to support a major Transit Authority, acting as the on-site technical lead for complex capital construction projects. You will provide daily oversight of contractor activities, review submittals, RFIs, and field drawings, coordinate with designers and stakeholders, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.

Required: Bachelor's in Civil Engineering or related field, 10+ years in engineering or construction management, transit/rail experience; PE license

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (PE license preferred).
• 10+ years of engineering or construction management experience, with at least 5 years in transit, rail, or heavy civil infrastructure.
• Strong technical knowledge of transit systems, including stations, trackwork, structures, utilities, signals, communications, or related disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Represent the consulting firm and the Transit Authority as the on-site engineering lead for assigned construction projects, ensuring adherence to contract documents, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide daily oversight of contractor activities, including monitoring progress, verifying quality, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental protocols.
• Lead field engineering tasks such as reviewing submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and technical clarifications; coordinate timely resolution of issues with designers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with transit operations, maintenance, safety teams, and external partners to maintain safe work zones and minimize service disruptions.
• Conduct regular site inspections and prepare detailed documentation, including daily reports, field memos, deficiency logs, and progress summaries.
• Supervise and mentor field inspection staff, ensuring consistent application of quality assurance practices and client standards.
• Review contractor schedules, track progress against milestones, and support schedule analysis and recovery strategies.
• Evaluate change order requests, assist with cost and schedule impact assessments, and support negotiations on behalf of the client.
• Facilitate construction meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and maintain organized project records in accordance with consulting firm and client requirements.
• Support testing, commissioning, and turnover activities to ensure systems and facilities meet operational and performance criteria.
• Uphold all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including FTA requirements when relevant.
• Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the project team and across all client interactions.
