Job summary

Sharps Medical Waste Services is seeking a dedicated Sharps Technician to safely place, collect, and transport reusable containers across healthcare facilities. The role emphasizes timely service, regulatory compliance, and strong customer service to hospital staff and other waste generators.

You will work independently with minimal supervision, handle lifting and moving of containers, and complete required screenings and vaccinations as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass background check, drug screening, and healthcare screenings.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills with the ability to provide excellent customer service in diverse healthcare settings.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Lift 25–40 lbs frequently; occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.
• Push and pull carts weighing 200–400 lbs, including through tight or confined spaces (e.g., hospital corridors).
• Carry sharps containers, pharmaceutical waste boxes, and supplies weighing 15–40 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between customer facilities.
• Ability to maintain sensitivity, professionalism, and discretion in patient-care environments.
• Flexibility to work outside normal business hours when needed.
• Must be willing and able to obtain additional vaccinations, immunizations, or health clearances as required by customer facilities.
• COVID-19 vaccination preferred.
• Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, including a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Travel between healthcare facilities to place, collect, and service reusable Sharp Medical Waste containers.
• Collect and transport pharmaceutical waste to designated areas within the facility.
• Maintain a strict service and collection schedule.
• Communicate duty status and service updates on a defined schedule.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships by resolving questions and concerns.
• Ensure safe, compliant handling of medical and pharmaceutical waste in patient rooms and sensitive environments.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Document activities and follow all procedures.
• Other duties as required.
