Job summary

Atkinson Construction is seeking a Safety Engineer to protect workers, subcontractors, and the public on our projects. The role enforces safety policies, ensures compliance with federal and local standards, and leads safety training and jobsite safe-work planning.

The position emphasizes hands-on site safety leadership, development of project-specific safety programs, and coordination with field supervision to manage complex safety aspects and trainings for subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in safety and health or related discipline.
• 4+ years of relevant construction safety experience.
• BCSP Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) or BCSP Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
• OSHA 30-hour training.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure the safety of employees, subcontractors, and the general public.
• Enforce corporate and project-specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards.
• Assist in the development and coordination of project-specific safety programs.
• Identify known/potential exposures and recommend corrective action.
• Report project-specific safety performance and plans.
• Assist with maintaining and managing all required training.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement the overall project-specific safety program.
• Work closely with field supervision to plan more complex safety aspects of the project construction, including critical lifts, hazardous material handling, etc.
• Develop project-specific safety training for jobsite personnel, including subcontractors.
• Coordinate third-party safety reviews, including OSHA.
