Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Project Engineer, Communications for on-site roles in Sacramento, Fresno, or Bakersfield, CA. The engineer leads railway communications systems, supports design, testing, and commissioning, and coordinates multi-disciplinary interfaces across operations and IT.

The role emphasizes fiber networks, IP/MPLS, regulatory approvals, and cybersecurity interfaces, with significant travel to align with program requirements.

Qualifications

• BA/BS + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• PE licensure preferred; 10+ years of railway communications or transportation systems engineering is highly valued.
• Experience delivering communications systems from design through testing, commissioning, and final acceptance.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and approve communications engineering deliverables across design, construction, testing, and commissioning.
• Ensure technical documentation is complete and aligned with program requirements and standards.
• Coordinate interfaces between communications, signaling, traction power, SCADA, and IT teams.
• Provide technical oversight for fiber optic backbone networks and IP/MPLS networks.
• Support FCC licensing and frequency coordination activities; prepare regulatory documentation.
• Develop and review test plans, procedures, and commissioning strategies for communications systems.
