Job summary

Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. is seeking a Quality Resident Engineer I to act as the on-site quality liaison at the Rivian Assembly Plant in Normal, Illinois. This role focuses on containment, root-cause analysis, and timely escalation of quality concerns affecting production.

You will lead issue identification, create Quality Alerts with data, review 8D reports, and support cross-functional teams to implement effective countermeasures. Some travel to Mexico and the US is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• 1-3 years of progressive engineering experience in quality or related field.
• Certification or demonstrated ability in a technical problem-solving discipline (Six Sigma, Shainin, Kepner-Tregoe).

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary quality interface with Rivian at Normal, IL, ensuring timely communication and escalation of quality concerns.
• Lead issue identification and documentation with detailed Quality Alerts and supporting data.
• Support root cause investigations with cross-functional teams using structured methodologies (8D, 3L5W).
• Review 8D reports to ensure containment, root cause, and corrective actions meet OEM expectations.
• Represent SEWS in customer meetings and lead technical discussions when needed with data support.
• Provide on-site technical support during launch and production and coordinate containment activities.
• Travel to Mexico and US is a plus.
• Promote SEWS quality standards and safe working practices.
