Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Project Engineer I with the ability to interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The role focuses on reviewing, analyzing, managing, and resolving field coordination issues with project teams and participants.

This full-time position requires on-site presence at assigned North Dakota project sites, within ~90 miles of Fargo, with occasional travel possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management.
• Minimum of two years related construction experience.
• Detail oriented to organize and manage multiple tasks.
• Understanding of construction law and business practices.
• Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Positive professional attitude and customer service skills.
• Current driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons.
• Implement the pre-construction quality plan.
• Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses.
• Develop and maintain Material Tracking List, Project Test and Inspection Listing, Concrete Placement Log, Non-Conformance Report.
• Manage, create, and distribute contract documents.
• Establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence).
• Incorporate processes for project closeout phase and testing/inspection.
• Implement three-phase inspection system and reporting formats.
• Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of non-conforming test results or inspection items.
• Manage submittals: register, approvals, transmittals, packaging, review, processing; expedite as needed.
• Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, paperwork, final payments.
• Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders; update as-built docs.
• Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers; determine alternative work methods.
• Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members; maintain schedule of timelines.
