Job summary

Aalo Atomics in Idaho Falls is seeking a Nuclear Safety Analyst/Engineer to develop and maintain safety programs for the Aalo-X campus, ensuring compliance with DOE requirements across design, construction, and operations. Reporting to the Nuclear Safety Manager, you will contribute to safety basis documentation and safety evaluations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline.
• 5 years of nuclear safety experience in DOE nuclear facilities.
• Knowledge of safety basis processes including DSA/TSR development, hazard analysis methodologies, and accident analysis techniques.
• Experience with Unreviewed Safety Question screenings per 10 CFR 830.
• Understanding of DOE nuclear safety requirements including facility safety, QA, and personnel qualification frameworks.
• Experience with hazard categorization and classification of safety structures, systems, and components.
• Ability to interpret and apply nuclear safety standards to practical facility situations.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to perform independent technical assessments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reports and safety evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and maintain safety basis documents including DSAs, TSRs, and hazard analyses.
• Perform Unreviewed Safety Question screenings for facility changes per 10 CFR 830.
• Conduct hazard identification, categorization, and analysis for facilities.
• Support classification of safety structures, systems, and components.
• Identify and evaluate Potential Inadequacies in Safety Analysis and corrective measures.
• Participate in walkdowns, design reviews, and operational assessments.
• Integrate nuclear safety requirements into design, construction, and operations.
• Prepare technical reports and safety evaluations for internal and DOE oversight.
• Contribute to the Integrated Safety Management System across operations.
• Support readiness assessments and startup activities as assigned.
• Maintain safety procedures and training for safety basis personnel.
• Monitor DOE requirements and industry standards developments.
• Coordinate with cross-disciplinary safety disciplines to ensure hazard management.
