Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to run a defined project scope under the Project Manager and to own delegated cost, procurement and documentation tasks. This role develops future Project Managers by assigning accountability before full authority, with scope documented at kickoff and reviewed as changes occur.

Qualifications

• 3–7 years in construction, typically progressing from Project Engineer; mining, industrial or heavy civil preferred.
• Demonstrated ownership of cost coding, quantity tracking, forecasting and change documentation on a live project.
• Working command of subcontract administration, procurement and pay application review.
• Able to read and interpret civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical drawings, isometrics, P&IDs and specifications.
• MSHA Part 46/48; valid 5000-23; OSHA 30; first aid/CPR.
• Actively developing toward Project Manager: expected to demonstrate readiness for full P&L ownership within two to four years.

Responsibilities

• Own delegated scope cost, progress and documentation; ensure delegated scope is clearly written at kickoff.
• Report on delegated scope at weekly project meetings: cost position, progress vs plan, open issues and risks.
• Escalate anything outside delegated scope to the Project Manager; do not absorb it.
• Maintain cost coding, quantity roll-up and earned-value reporting for delegated scope.
• Prepare monthly cost forecast and estimate at completion for delegated scope; PM consolidates the project total.
• Prepare monthly accrual and progress billing backup for PM review and submission.
• Review and approve timecards, vendor invoices and subcontractor pay apps within scope and threshold.
• Flag cost trends and budget exposure early to PM to avoid month-end surprises.
• Identify potential changes and assemble pricing, backup, labor and equipment build-up for PM review.
• Draft change order documents and notices; track the change log.
• Participate in change order negotiations with the client when PM leads.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field-earned experience
