Job summary

University of California- Davis Health is seeking a Medical Interpreter I to provide on-site interpretation for non-English-speaking patients in a fast-paced Patient Contact Center. The role centers on accurate interpretation between English and target languages, ensuring clear communication with clinicians and staff.

The position requires certification or language assessment, a valid CA driver’s license, and the ability to work a 9:30 AM–6:00 PM shift.

Qualifications

• Proof of California auto insurance requirement.
• Active Certification or Language Assessment: Healthcare Interpreter National Certification through CCHI or Medical Interpreting Certification through NBCMI. For hires without a National Certification, proof of a passing score on the UC Davis language assessment is required.
• Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record per local policies.
• Must be fluent in English and target language(s).
• Knowledge of medical terminology in source and target languages.
• Ability to interpret from target language to English and vice versa.
• Ability to interact with non-English speakers with professionalism and empathy.
• Organizational skills to manage workload and priorities.
• Ability to read schedules, forms, brochures and printed information.
