Job summary

CLOVEHITCH is seeking on-site interpreters to support clients across the Hawaiian Islands. This independent contractor role requires interpreting between client staff and LEP clients, with duties emphasizing neutrality and complete relay of content.

Applicants should have ILR 2+ English proficiency and target language skills, and experience in governmental, healthcare, legal, or social services settings is preferred. Certification is optional but valued.

Qualifications

• Must have working proficiency (ILR 2+) in English and target language, including healthcare, legal, and social services domains.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret accurately in professional or social services settings.
• Interpreter training or certification preferred (e.g., CCHI, CMI, court interpreter certification).
• Familiarity with Hawaii’s Pacific Islander communities and culturally relevant terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, complete, and impartial in-person interpretation between client staff and LEP clients.
• Interpret in the first person, relaying all content completely and without editing.
• Serve as a communication liaison to ensure mutual understanding with neutrality and professionalism.
• Adhere to interpreter ethics, including confidentiality, accuracy, and impartiality.
• Pass any required background checks or credentialing processes.
