Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Controls Project Manager for our HVAC division to lead on-site control projects from planning through commissioning and closeout.

You will coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, field resources, and customers to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and per contract requirements. Strong focus on safety, quality, and profitability will drive success.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, Building Automation Systems, or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related discipline is preferred with leadership experience.
• Hands-on experience in design, installation, startup, commissioning, and turnover of digital HVAC or BAS control systems.
• Strong HVAC controls knowledge with understanding of control theory, HVAC equipment operation, and BAS.

Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC controls projects through hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, commissioning, and closeout.
• Coordinate day-to-day execution with subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and admin staff.
• Manage project financial performance: costs, billings, cash flow, and gross margin.
• Maintain regular communication with customers and develop long-term relationships.
• Review scope, directives, bulletins, schedule changes, and pursue change orders for additional work.
• Coordinate procurement: material selection, ordering, vendor pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
• Oversee loading, device verification, system checkout, and commissioning of controllers and equipment.
• Validate system functionality and ensure installation meets requirements.
• Prepare as-built records, commissioning docs, manuals, and warranty docs.
• Provide site training for owners/operators on system operation.
• Attend progress meetings and forecast revenue, costs, and margin.
• Ensure safety standards and legal compliance.
