Job summary

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, Inc. seeks a Handyperson to join the on-site maintenance team. You will perform routine repairs, assist with cleaning, and ensure safe, clean housing for tenants across POP Management properties.

The role involves coordinating with the on-site Superintendent and facilities staff, preparing vacant units, and covering front desk as needed. FDNY fitness and physical tasks are required.

Qualifications

• High School or GED preferred for the role.
• Experience with cleaning and repair equipment (vacuum/shop vac, floor machines, snow blower, yard/landscaping tools).
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, electricity and plumbing.
• Knowledge of boilers, electrical machinery, elevators, HVAC and fire protection systems.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness appropriate to site required within 6 months of hire.
• Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Russian).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including climbing ladders and standing for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine repairs in and around the property.
• Assist with cleaning and sanitizing per standards.
• Prepare vacant units for timely rental.
• Coordinate with the Superintendent and facilities staff.
• Maintain Service Request Order documentation.
• Operate cleaning equipment and monitor supplies for safety.
• Provide front desk coverage when needed.
• Attend trainings and staff meetings.
