Job summary

Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens is seeking a Porter/Maintenance Worker to join the on-site maintenance team supporting affordable housing for tenants. You will perform cleaning, basic repairs, and safety inspections, helping keep building common areas and tenant units ready for occupancy.

You will work with the Superintendent and POP Management staff, following procedures, prioritizing safety, and providing backup coverage for the facilities team as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Experience using cleaning and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, holidays.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Superintendent to ensure optimum maintenance of the property.
• Complete routine repairs in the building and document on a Service Request Order.
• Coordinate with Superintendent, vendors, contractors, and apartment inspections; monitor mechanical systems.
• Perform cleaning tasks and follow NYC sanitation guidelines; ensure common areas are clean and safe.
• Follow a regular cleaning schedule for floors, doors, windows, elevators, lobby, offices, laundry, restrooms, and community spaces.
• Perform tenant apartment preparations including cleaning, painting and floor stripping/waxing.
• Ensure snow and ice removal is timely and complete.
• Provide back-up coverage to building maintenance staff and other POPM facilities as requested.
• Other duties as assigned; work with superintendent on special projects.
