Job summary

UES is seeking an experienced Project Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer to support a specialized project in Portsmouth, Ohio. This on-site role provides field oversight, subsurface characterization, technical logging, and detailed documentation within geotechnical drilling and exploration programs.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on field experience, an active PG or PE license, and the ability to work independently while coordinating with a larger project team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science; Master’s degree preferred.
• FG certification required; PG license strongly preferred or required based on state.
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current refresher
• Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• Experience in environmental site investigation, remediation, or regulatory compliance
• Proven field logging and subsurface investigation experience

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site technical representative during geotechnical drilling and subsurface exploration.
• Observe drilling operations and provide technical oversight of field investigations.
• Perform detailed soil, rock, and core logging and classification.
• Document subsurface stratigraphy, material characteristics, sampling intervals, recovery, and depths.
• Prepare and maintain boring logs, field notes, photos, sampling records, and other documentation.
• Communicate findings promptly to project engineers and geologists.
• Coordinate with drill crews, contractors, and project personnel.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and technical requirements.
