Job summary

UES seeks a Field Geotechnical Engineer for extensive site-based work, leading subsurface investigations, drilling oversight, and on-site evaluations. You will ensure adherence to geotechnical recommendations, safety standards, and project specs while coordinating with contractors and clients.

The role emphasizes field leadership, data collection, and reporting, with travel up to 70% to project sites nationwide, and requires strong written and verbal communication and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of geotechnical field and construction observation experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of subsurface investigation techniques and soil/rock classification.
• Familiarity with ASTM testing standards and geotechnical construction practices.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical reports, plans, and drawings in the field.

Responsibilities

• Lead subsurface investigations including soil borings, CPT, and rock coring.
• Log soil/rock borings per ASTM and industry standards.
• Observe drilling crews and coordinate field exploration activities.
• Perform in-situ testing and dewatering monitoring.
• Provide on-site engineering judgment on unsuitable soils and over‑excavation limits.
• Monitor foundation excavations and earth retention system construction.
• Prepare field reports, notes, and daily logs; communicate findings to project teams.
