Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) invites current fire protection engineering students to its Summer 2027 Internship in Fire Protection Engineering, onsite in Dallas, TX or other U.S. locations.

You will work with senior engineers on on-site investigations, data collection, and reports, gaining hands-on experience in building codes and performance evaluations. The position emphasizes fieldwork, data organization, and client deliverables while developing technical research skills under

Qualifications

• Current student with excellent academic standing in junior or senior year of a bachelor's or in a graduate program in fire protection engineering or related field, from an accredited program.
• Focused interest in fire protection and life safety objectives and challenges.
• Demonstrated leadership skills, integrity, and work ethic.
• Effective verbal, graphical, and written communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for solving problems in the built world and curiosity about how things work.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams with on-site investigations, condition assessments, and inspections including surveying, documenting distress, field testing, collecting data and samples, and preparing site visit reports.
• Organize field data and assist with research of construction documents, building codes, and design guidelines to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis of fire protection systems and/or building code issues under the guidance of licensed professionals.
• Assist project teams with the preparation of client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
• Contribute to in-house technical research projects.
