Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking current fire protection engineering students for a Summer 2027 Internship in our Fire Protection Engineering practice on-site in San Diego, CA and other locations.

Interns will work with leading experts to apply academic knowledge to real-world problems and gain hands-on experience. Typical responsibilities include on-site investigations, data organization, code research, design guidance, client deliverables, and contributing to research

Qualifications

• Current student in junior/senior year of a bachelor’s or in a graduate program in fire protection engineering or related field.
• Focused interest in fire protection and life safety objectives.
• Demonstrated leadership, integrity and work ethic.
• Effective verbal, graphical, and written communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for solving problems in the built world and curiosity about how things work.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams with on-site investigations, condition assessments, and inspections including surveying, documenting distress, field testing, data collection, and site visit reports.
• Organize field data and assist with research of construction documents, building codes, and design guidelines to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis of fire protection systems and/or building code issues under licensed professionals.
• Assist with preparation of client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
• Contribute to in-house technical research projects.
