Job summary

Atlas Copco Mafi-Trench Company LLC seeks a Product Development Engineer focused on electromechanical turbomachinery. You will design and develop active magnetic bearing and high-speed motor/generator systems for expander and turbocompressor applications, working in an engineered-to-order environment.

The role involves collaborating with engineering, drafting, and manufacturing teams, maintaining CAD models, and driving design improvements for reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field is required; advanced degrees are advantageous.
• Specialized knowledge in rotordynamics, mechatronics, and turbomachinery design.
• Demonstrated experience or interest in active magnetic bearing and high-speed motor/generator technologies.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAE tools, with SolidWorks preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Motivated self-learner with a disciplined approach to quality and continual improvement.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support development partners and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth R&D on AMB technology and high-speed motor/generator systems for expander and compressor applications.
• Collaborate with drafting, engineering, and manufacturing to prepare specifications, drawings, and BOMs.
• Maintain and update 3D CAD models and 2D drawings to meet performance and quality standards.
• Develop expertise in electromagnetic systems and high-speed drive integration; stay current on industry advancements.
• Provide design solutions through a rigorous development process to address engineering challenges.
• Enhance fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting workflows for scalable, high-quality production.
• Advise internal teams on application and optimization of high-speed drive systems in various settings.
• Represent Atlas Copco in technical discussions with customers and partners.
