Job summary

Actalent in North Charleston, SC seeks a Safety Manager to lead site-wide environmental, health, and safety programs ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will develop and maintain safety plans, manage hazardous waste, and train staff across facilities.

You will supervise personnel, support timekeeping and invoicing processes, and coordinate certifications and audits. This is a contract-to-hire, on-site role with a competitive hourly pay range.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs in federal, military, or large facilities operations.
• Completed hazardous waste management training per 40 CFR 265.16 or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and DHEC requirements as they relate to facilities operations.
• Experience in incident investigation, safety audits, environmental reporting, and regulatory inspections.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintaining digital compliance records.

Responsibilities

• Manage site-wide EHS programs in line with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Safety Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, JHAs, and safety training.
• Oversee hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal per EPA standards.
• Conduct safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across maintenance, custodial, grounds, and warehouse.
• Coordinate staff certifications in OSHA programs, including 30-hour Outreach training.
• Remain available by phone 24/7 as primary safety contact during audits or emergencies.
• Investigate accidents, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain MSDS/SDS libraries, waste manifests, and inspection records.
