Job summary

Nexcess is seeking a Data Center Technician in Michigan to join our high-performance cloud infrastructure team. The role focuses on hardware decommissioning, data destruction, inventory tracking, and hands-on server/workspace maintenance to ensure uptime for our global clients.

You will troubleshoot hardware, manage tickets, and install/configure servers, firewalls, and networking gear. Strong communication and Linux basics are required for success in a fast-paced data-center environment.

Qualifications

• 1+ years relevant experience in data center or IT operations.
• Solid working knowledge of computer hardware.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exemplary organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent diagnostic skills.
• Proven customer service acumen.
• Solid working knowledge of various Linux distributions.
• Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the LAMP stack.
• Basic experience with Windows Server.
• Basic networking knowledge.
• Understanding of RAID configurations.

Responsibilities

• Decommissioning hardware.
• Destruction of data on reclaimed devices.
• Track inventory and maintain accurate records.
• Test and troubleshoot hardware.
• Perform audits of datacenter infrastructure.
• Monitor tickets, chats, and alerts; provide initial hands-on response.
• Check IP status on RBLs and process as needed.
• Assemble, troubleshoot, and configure servers, firewalls, switches, etc.
• Install operating systems and apply base configurations.
• Communicate with customers via phone, chat, and email to provide support.
• Perform hardware firmware upgrades and learn new hardware platforms.
• Rack servers, install cabling, and assist with infrastructure needs.
• Deploy complex, highly available infrastructure and services.
