Job summary

BKF Engineers, Inc. is seeking an on-call Construction Inspector to perform onsite inspections ensuring compliance with contracts and permits.

You will inspect and report on a variety of projects, advise engineers on variances, and collect material samples for testing. Qualifications include a college degree or 5+ years' civil/transportation experience, 4+ years in supervision or inspection of engineering construction, and a valid California driver’s license.

Qualifications

College degree or minimum 5 years’ work experience with Transportation or Civil related projects
4+ years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications
Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required

Responsibilities

Inspects and reports on a variety of construction projects
Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of variances from approved plans and specs
Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assists in conducting field tests or refers samples for laboratory analysis
Checks location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
Reviews contractor’s traffic control plans and field traffic control; review project safety
Inspects earthwork grading, placement of asphalt concrete, proportions, and control of mixes
Inspects delivery, placing, and curing of concrete and the placing of reinforcing steel
Maintains material and inspection records and daily diary/photo log
