Job summary

US CareerLink is seeking a hands-on Project Manager in Chicago, IL, to lead excavation, earthworks, demolition, sitework and underground utility projects. This on-site role combines project management with commercial responsibility, coordinating field operations across Chicagoland with superintendents, foremen and office staff.

You will plan sequences, track costs, manage change orders and ensure safety, quality and timely closeout.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of relevant construction experience with responsibility for managing projects.
• Contractor-side experience in excavation, earthworks, grading, demolition, underground utilities, site development or related heavy civil work.
• Practical experience coordinating labor, equipment, trucking and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, quantities, cost control and change orders.
• Clear communication, organization, and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficiency with Excel and common construction documentation or project management software.

Responsibilities

• Manage civil construction projects from handover and mobilization through completion and closeout.
• Coordinate daily and weekly requirements for crews, trucks, hauling, equipment, materials and subcontractors.
• Plan work sequences and short-term look-ahead schedules, adjusting to site conditions and delivery constraints.
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes and quantities; resolve field questions with the project team.
• Track job costs, production, material quantities, commitments and progress against budget.
• Identify scope changes, prepare pricing and supporting records, and manage change-order follow-up.
• Coordinate procurement, RFIs, submittals, permits, inspections and project documentation.
• Maintain clear communication with clients, general contractors, vendors, field teams and leadership.
• Support safe working practices, quality requirements and project closeout.
