Job summary

COWI is seeking a Construction Field Engineer in Irvine, CA to join our North America team. This full-time hybrid role involves working with a multidisciplinary CM team on major, multi-year civil projects, coordinating with owner, designer, and contractor, and driving change management and field inspections.

The ideal candidate has a civil/engineering background, 5+ years of on-site experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Excel, Procore, and Primavera P6.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience, including on-site construction or construction management roles.
• Experience with construction contract management, quality management, and RFI/submittal management.
• Valid driver's license.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• High proficiency in MS Excel.
• Reside near Irvine, CA, or relocation capability.
• Experience with public works construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Work full-time, on-site to deliver major, multi-year civil works projects.
• Remain flexible within the CM Team to support project success.
• Administer construction contracts by reviewing contractor change requests and drafting change orders.
• Develop and maintain change order cost packages and logs; chair owner-contractor discussions.
• Support change order progress meetings and review contractor payments.
• Manage RFIs and submittals, ensuring contract conformance and coordinating with Owner/Designer.
• Provide input on constructability, cost, and schedule implications of RFI responses.
• Perform field inspections to verify work aligns with plans and specs.
• Identify non-conforming work; coordinate corrective actions with Designer/Contractor.
• Coordinate development of As-Built Drawings.
• Support construction reporting and documentation.
