Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an on-site Field Inspector to support transportation construction inspection across multiple project sites. You will assess roadway, bridge, drainage, erosion, and maintenance activities, ensuring conformance with plans, specifications, and provisions.

The role requires inspecting and documenting complex construction activities, reading plans, and communicating findings to supervision. Travel of 20%–40% is expected, with diverse site locations and supervision levels.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Certifications from a State Highway Agency or national entity such as ACI or NICET in earthwork, asphalt, and concrete if required by the client or jurisdiction.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• 6 years of related construction inspection experience.
• Equivalent additional related experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and routine inspections of construction to evaluate if materials and processes conform to plans and specifications.
• Uses higher-grade equipment and performs complex calculations for inspections.
• Works under limited or direct supervision depending on assignment.
• Review drawings to prepare for inspection.
• Document and communicate inspection results to the supervisor.
