Job summary

Vaco Recruiter Services is seeking an Assistant Controller in Berlin, CT (On-Site) with up to $130k compensation, depending on experience. The role leads a team of eight, handles close processes, and partners with operations to drive reporting and controls across multiple business lines.

The ideal candidate will master the ERP system, analyze large data sets, and improve financial reporting and internal controls while guiding staff and collaborating with leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting staff.
• Strong understanding of general ledger, AP, AR, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
• Experience working with ERP systems and complex accounting environments.
• CPA preferred but not required.
• Backgrounds in financial services, distribution, inventory-intensive businesses, retail, wholesale, real estate, transportation, or operational accounting are highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and mentorship to an accounting team of about eight professionals.
• Support month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
• Develop expertise in the company’s ERP system and operational accounting processes.
• Analyze large financial and operational data sets to identify trends and opportunities.
• Troubleshoot complex accounting and system-related issues.
• Partner with leadership to improve reporting, data integrity, and processes.
• Support inventory, contract, lease, and franchise-related accounting activities.
• Drive process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and internal controls.
• Participate in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.
