Job summary

Sunbelt Staffing is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support a Deaf or Hard of Hearing student in a Crown Point, Indiana Head Start program. This on-site contract role focuses on providing accurate ASL interpretation during the school day, ensuring full access to instruction and activities.

Ideal candidates hold current certification (EIPA, RID, or state credential) and have experience in educational settings.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience providing interpretation services in educational settings.
• Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state credential).
• Familiarity with the unique needs of DHH students and ability to adapt communication styles accordingly.
• Professional, reliable, and able to effectively collaborate with educators and staff.
• Prior experience in school settings or with early childhood programs is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site ASL interpretation between a DHH student and staff during the school day.
• Facilitate clear and effective communication to ensure full access to instruction and activities.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff as a language and cultural mediator.
• Support the students academic and social engagement within the Head Start program.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow all educational and ethical standards.
