Job summary

Syracuse University seeks a Database Architect/Developer to design, implement, and maintain the data architecture that powers our information systems. You will optimize performance, ensure data integrity, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet business requirements.

The Database Architect / Developer will work with all subject matter expects from departments within the Office of the Chief Operations Officer and other Syracuse University departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5–7 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and PowerShell and Python scripting, with hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines that integrate data across multiple systems including Oracle, Active Directory, and third-party APIs.
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, data modeling principles, and ETL best practices.
• Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• This position functions as the sole developer on the team, requiring independent management and prioritization of multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement database solutions that align with business requirements, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and optimal performance.
• Design database structures, tables, and relationships based on data modeling principles.
• Monitor and optimize database performance by fine-tuning queries, indexing, and configuration settings.
• Establish robust security measures to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access or breaches.
• Develop and maintain data models, documentation, and dashboards; perform development, analysis, and production support.
