Job summary

Montgomery County Pennsylvania is seeking a Maintenance Support Worker to handle a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks in an institutional setting. You will perform carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and locksmith duties, and assist with janitorial work as needed.

Heavy lifting and on-call shifts are required. Candidates should have a High School Diploma or equivalent and prefer trade schooling or related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade schooling, certifications preferred or comparable combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Exhibits the appropriate level of decision-making, planning and communicative skills.
• A minimum of 1 year prior experience in a trade or skilled labor position with emphasis on carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical skills is beneficial.
• Must have a good general knowledge of industrial cleaning procedures and ability to operate various pieces of equipment such as carpet extractor, floor buffer, vacuum cleaner, snow blower, lawn equipment, etc.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to take oral and written instructions.
• Must have good moral and ethical character.
• Criminal History Record check, a Drug Test and a Child Abuse History clearance prior to employment.
• Must have a physical examination report from a licensed physician.
• Must be able to lift heavy cartons and equipment.
• The ability to work in close proximity to residents in a secure detention and shelter setting is required. Heavy lifting and strenuous labor is common to assigned tasks.
• Ability to work harmoniously with public and staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance tasks across carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical trades.
• Assist with janitorial duties when requested.
• On-call for building emergencies as needed.
• Operate a wide range of industrial and commercial equipment.
• Repair items such as locks, curtain rods, furniture and fixtures.
• Assist in cleaning classrooms and replenishing supplies.
