Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living at Hillsville is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Director and maintain the community’s physical plant. You will handle electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and other technical tasks while ensuring compliance with life-safety regulations.

The role requires a minimum of three years in maintenance, good English communication, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience.
• Must read, write and speak English.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and safety codes.
• Experience with building and equipment maintenance.
• Experience with geriatric populations is a plus.
• Customer service attitude and on-call readiness.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on grounds, facilities and equipment.
• Repair plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and other systems as directed.
• Maintain safe operating and fire prevention practices.
• Prepare vacant rooms to rent-ready within 72 hours of move-out.
• Inspect and test fire alarm and emergency systems; maintain records.
• Cooperate with staff to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
• Provide resident transportation as directed by the Executive Director.
• Other duties as assigned.
