Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Director in maintaining the community's physical plant. Responsibilities include electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, refrigeration, and other technical tasks while ensuring life-safety code compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Able to use a wide variety of maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and building and fire safety codes.
• Demonstrated skills in building and equipment maintenance, cleanliness and repairs.
• Experience with senior/geriatric population is a plus.
• Customer service orientation and professional demeanor; on-call for emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveway, etc.
• Maintain facility and equipment including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical tasks.
• Maintain safety and fire prevention practices.
• Keep general plant and facilities in good repair with a safe, clean environment.
• Replace burned-out lights and perform high-place housekeeping.
• Service heating and cooling systems per manufacturer specifications.
• Replenish maintenance supplies as needed.
• Repair emergency breakdowns promptly.
• Cooperate with staff to ensure resident safety.
• Prepare vacant rooms to rent-ready condition within 72 hours of move-out.
• Inform Executive Director of wear and tear or cleaning needs.
• Inspect and test fire alarm/emergency systems; maintain test records.
• Pursue efficiency programs to reduce waste and costs.
• Maintain logs and records of maintenance activities.
• Provide resident transportation as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.
