Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living at Haddam is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to assist the Maintenance Director in keeping the community’s physical plant in good repair. The role covers electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, refrigeration and life-safety code compliance, with a 24/7 on-call requirement for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years in a maintenance related position.
• English language ability required (read/write/speak).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Familiarity with a wide range of maintenance equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and safety codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on grounds and facilities.
• Repair plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems as directed.
• Maintain safe operating and fire prevention practices.
• Keep facility in good repair and clean, safe, and orderly.
• Replace bulbs and perform high-place housekeeping duties.
• Service heating and cooling systems per manufacturer specs.
• Replenish maintenance supplies as needed.
• Repair emergency breakdowns promptly.
• Cooperate with staff to maintain a safe environment for residents and staff.
• Prepare vacant rooms to rent-ready condition within 72 hours.
