On-Call Field Archaeologist – Northern CA & Beyond

Job summary

Stantec is expanding its Northern California on-call archaeological team. Work will be in Northern California with potential opportunities in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. This is fieldwork-heavy, with occasional office or lab-based work.

Travel and weather conditions influence assignments. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Archaeology and 1+ year related experience; field school is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology is required and minimum 1-year related experience, or an equivalent combination.
• Participation in an archaeological field school is seen as an asset.
• Field work may include exposure to the elements; ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Participate in identifying and recording areas of archaeological potential, sites, and traditional use sites.
• Work with Field Director/Supervisor to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management.
• Collect field data.
• Participate in field reconnaissance surveys (linear and block type).
• Prepare monitoring logs, survey forms, site records and other field documentation; provide brief work summaries for reports and client communications.
• Excavations.
• Construction monitoring.
