Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is seeking an on-call Direct Support Professional (PRN) in a healthcare setting to assist individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in home and community settings.

Under supervision, the DSP provides direct care, helps with daily living skills, supports medication-related tasks as needed, and maintains documentation in the electronic case management system, ensuring safety and person-centered planning.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in field of intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred, but required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass trainings and maintain required certifications for CMS or relevant entities.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Written and verbal communication must be clear and professional.
• Pass relevant local and state background checks and drug testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provides supports identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team with families and teams.
• Teaches and assists with household tasks such as cleaning, meals, budgeting, and shopping.
• Assists individuals to develop daily living skills per the PCP.
• May monitor and assist with medication administration.
• May perform crisis intervention and provide First Aid/CPR.
• Plan and participate in social activities with individuals.
• Transports individuals to appointments and activities as needed.
• Documents activities in the electronic case management system daily.
