Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas is hiring a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to assist people with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in a home setting. The DSP provides direct care, teaches daily living skills, and supports independence under supervision.

The role requires strong communication, attention to safety, and ability to document activities in the electronic records. Evening shifts (11 PM–7 AM) across a 16-hour weekly schedule are available.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities field.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred or required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass background checks and drug testing.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Written and verbal communication must be clear and professional.
• Problem solving ability.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care and support to people with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities.
• Teaches and supports daily living skills and promotes independence.
• Assists with medication administration under supervision when needed.
• May perform crisis intervention and provide First Aid/CPR as required.
• Plans, coordinates and participates in social activities.
• Documents activities in EHR and client files daily.
• Transports people as needed for appointments, shopping or events.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
