Job summary

Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking an On‑Call Cook 2 at the Longview Reentry Center in Longview, WA. The role supports nutrition for residents, with hours varying by need and an in‑training path allowing progression from Cook 1 if qualified.

Primary duties include meal prep, portion control, inventory, and safe operation of kitchen equipment, while complying with health and safety regulations and DOC policies.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ cooking experience in a large‑scale food service or culinary operation.
• Completion of a course in large‑scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience.
• One (1) year as a Cook 1 in State service.
• Current food handler permit required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation and service of all food on a shift.
• Perform recipe conversions to determine quantities and meet menu requirements.
• Ensure adherence to portion control protocols.
• Maintain and track knife and tool inventory.
• Order, store, and rotate food inventories; manage supplies and equipment.
• Monitor residents and maintain safe, secure kitchen operations.
