The objective of all positions is to effectively provide the services personally, or to immediately refer requests to the appropriate department manager. The following is a summary of the major responsibilities of the position.

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

JOB TITLE: On-CallBanquet Barback

REPORTS TO: Director, Banquets / Banquet Managers

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for delivering excellence in guest service by developing relationships with guests, providing personalized service, anticipating and delivering guests’ needs. The Barback comprehends the cocktail/beverage menus, anticipates the needs of the bartenders to ensure all products and supplies are present.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Consistent maintenance and refinement of service standards. Ensures compliance with all hotel standards and local laws.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and sanitation awareness standards. Prepare daily for health department and Ecosure inspections.

• Must have knowledge of a variety of alcoholic beverages, must retain and maintain complete knowledge of all food and beverage menu items.

• Perform all necessary tasks for bar back according to the standard operating procedure of the hotel including but not limited to proper breakdown and storage of beverage requisitions, setting BQT bars with glassware and beverage, spot check all glassware, complete garnish prep, stock ice, proper breakdown of BQT bars.
• Perform all banquet sidework as assigned by management including but not limited to the cleaning of bar and beverage equipment, cleaning of portable bars and back bars, walls, and carpets surrounding assigned work area.

• Assist housepersons with set up and break down of all the banquet bar areas as needed.
• Responsible to adhere to all proper trash procedures.
• Complete all necessary paperwork when setting and breaking down bars. ie) food and beverage requisitions, count sheets, POS paperwork.
• Work with bartenders and ensure all necessary supplies are stocked throughout the event.
• Contribute to the banquet sanitation operation and timing of service into all banquet areas. Ensures prompt delivery and quality control from point of departure to arrival.
• Perform proper steps of service for all banquet events. Responsible for ensuring high-quality bar sets, service, food and beverage quality and presentation.
• Report to management any need for housekeeping or maintenance of banquet areas and banquet equipment.
• Contribute to the cleanliness and organization of all banquet space, FOH & BOH. Maintain cleanliness of liquor room and fridges.
• Responsible to maintain all furniture, fixtures and equipment to a high standard. Minimize breakage by demonstrating care when handling hotel assets and equipment.
• Executes all necessary instructions on Banquet Event Orders.
• Assist in the controlling of food and beverage quantities by avoiding over/under preparing.
• Ensure positive guest service and respond positively to complaints, taking all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return guests.

• Respond to guests’ requests in an accurate and timely manner, creating a positive outcome that will result in a memorable experience.
• Maintain knowledge of hotel offerings and local surroundings, i.e. nearby entertainment, theaters, etc.

• Responsible to attend daily stand up meeting to gather relevant information prior to each event.
• Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect and cooperation among co-workers. Treats co-workers fairly and equitably.
• Maintain a professional, neat and organized appearance according to Omni standards.
• Respond swiftly and effectively in any emergency or safety situations. Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury or accident.
• Attend all required department trainings and meetings.
• Perform any other duties required by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidate must have hands-on food and beverage knowledge and a comprehensive, working knowledge of the hospitality business.
• A minimum of relevant banquet bar experience in a large convention hotel is strongly preferred.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed during busy times and high-profile events, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Highly developed customer service skills; possessing a friendly approachable demeanor and strong problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
• Proven ability to engage guests at all levels. Must be passionate about providing warm, engaging and personalized service.
• Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple priorities.
• Must possess the ability to handle stressful and busy hotel operations. Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor and composure at all times.

• Must have the ability to report to work on time and when scheduled.
• Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.

• Must meet standards of appearance and maintain a high level of personal hygiene at all time.
• Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be comfortable speaking to guests. Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate both verbally and in writing in English with guests, management, and co-workers.

ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Interior of hotel, in restaurant and kitchen areas with exposure to steam, humidity and extreme temperature.
• The ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
• The ability to bend, reach and lift to 50lbs and push/pull/carry up to 100lbs.
• Exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals.

Local 26 union rate per hour starts at $25.50 and increases to $33.41 after 1 year of service
