Job summary

The Boca Raton is seeking an On-Call Banquet Barback with prior barback, food runner, or busser experience. You will be self-motivated, friendly and capable in a fast-paced hotel setting.

Responsibilities include glassware prep, garnishes, stock management, and ensuring health code compliance while assisting security as needed. Must adhere to liquor regulations and maintain a clean bar area.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of preparation and service of alcoholic beverages.
• Basic math for portion sizes and deliveries.
• Dexterity to handle glassware, knives, and stock.
• Basic English for customer inquiries.
• Ability to understand product labeling instructions.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Hospitality experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Summary

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as barback, food runner or busser. This individual should be self-motivated and have the ability to demonstrate a friendly and hospitable demeanor in a high pressure, fast paced environment.

Essential Functions

Job duties include, although are not limited to:

• Request, confirm and polish all the glassware for each bar and after confirming with bartenders for completeness.
• Cuts, slices and peels perishable garnishes and fruits, mixes and pours juices in sufficient amounts according to projected business. Stores back-up supplies needing refrigeration in prescribed containers for later use.
• Checks and assists bartender in maintaining adequate amounts of supplies, i.e., stir sticks, napkins, matches, etc., for both the immediate bar and extended service area. Transports taps, replaces and performs routine maintenance requirements on heavy beer kegs.
• Maintains cleanliness of bar area, beer lockers, refrigeration and storage areas to comply with health code standards.
• Scoops ice from ice bins, transports to service areas and replenishes ice containers for usage.
• Boxes and saves empty liquor bottles as they accumulate for later returns and requisitions.
• Attends mandatory meetings.
• Performs general cleaning tasks to adhere to health and safety standards.
• Keeps work area clean and organized.
• Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor such as assisting security with disorderly guests.
• Must adhere to all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.

Internal Relationships

Reports to banquet beverage captains, bartenders, culinary, stewarding, and other departments.

External Relationships

Has regular contact with bar guests.

Qualifications and Education/Experience Requirements

• Must be knowledgeable in preparation and service of alcoholic beverages.
• Basic mathematical skills necessary to ensure proper delivery amounts and understand portion sizes.
• Sufficient manual dexterity of hands in order to use a knife, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, tap kegs and extend arms overhead to stock items.
• Basic knowledge of the English language sufficient for the employee to understand inquiries from customers and communicate simple instructions.
• Ability to comprehend written product labeling instructions to enable the safe application of products and processes within the hotel.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry, or otherwise, move or push goods on a hand cart/truck weighing a maximum of 300 lbs., at a continuous schedule.
• Ability to perform duties within temperature ranges, from normal to refrigerated.
• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Some hospitality experience preferred

Physical Requirements

Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
