On-Call Archaeology Technician - Field Survey Specialist

Job summary

WSP USA Inc. is seeking 10 to 15 Archaeological Field Technicians for fieldwork on multiple projects across Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. These are on-call hourly positions with project-based workloads, and pay will be determined by education and experience.

Hotels and per diem are provided as standard. Successful candidates will help locate, test, record, map, and evaluate sites using pedestrian and shovel-test surveys and ESRI Arc Field Maps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline.
• One (1) year minimum of archaeological field experience
• Previous CRM field experience or academic archaeological field school
• Knowledge of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in recording sites and artifacts.
• Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas.
• Ability to work independently and plan/execute assignments with minimal instruction.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to work long hours in harsh environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members
• Ability to pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment
• Must pass background check and pass WSP Motor Vehicle screening

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support using basic anthropological and archaeological field techniques for locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating sites.
• Support field surveys through pedestrian surveys and shovel test surveys.
• Use topographic maps, aerial photos, and ESRI Arc Field Maps GPS data collection software to conduct survey work.
• Work long hours in difficult or remote environments and in varying weather conditions.
• Collaborate effectively with groups of diverse personalities.
• Maintain a positive attitude, accept direction, and work independently when needed.
• Plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.
