Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a maintenance technician to monitor oil and fuel levels in vehicles and equipment, grease moving parts, deliver and pump fuel, and maintain lubrication systems. The role requires obtaining and maintaining licenses and certifications including AK CDL with HazMat, HAZWOPER, IS 100/200/700/800, CPR/AED/First Aid, and SPCC training.

• Valid Alaska CDL with Hazardous Materials Endorsement required within 6 months.
• HAZWOPER certification required.
• IS 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800 training required.
• CPR, AED and Basic First Aid certifications required.
• Site-specific RCRA training within probationary period.
• SPCC training within probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the oil and fuel levels of vehicles and equipment.
• Oil and grease moving parts of friction surfaces.
• Deliver and pump fuel.
• Fill lubricating systems and oil containers.
• Regulate the flow of oil to moving parts.
• Burn waste oil.
• Report machine defects or malfunctions.
• Maintain and clean equipment and shop.
• Maintain Health Card and other Certifications.
• May be required to work non-traditional hours including evenings, holidays and weekends.

Job description

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Monitor and maintain the oil and fuel levels of vehicles and equipment.

• Monitor the oil and fuel levels of vehicles and equipment.
• Oil and grease moving parts of friction surfaces of mechanical equipment.
• Deliver and pump fuel.
• Fill lubricating systems and oil containers.
• Regulate the flow of oil to moving parts.
• Burn waste oil.
• Report machine defects or malfunctions.

Maintain and clean equipment and shop.

Maintain Health Card and other Certifications.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License or Obtain a Valid AKCDL within the first 6 months of employment (with Hazardous Material Endorsement) that meets North Slope

Borough insurance criteria; and OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.

Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800;

Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.

Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.
