Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a fuel/equipment technician to monitor oil and fuel levels, deliver and pump fuel, and perform preventive maintenance on fleet equipment. The role requires adherence to safety regulations and potential on-call duties in a remote Alaska setting.

The position requires licenses and certifications including AK CDL with HazMat, HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid, IS 100/200/700/800, RCRA, SPCC, and current certifications, with on-the-job training to meet requirements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• HAZWOPER certification is required or must be obtained within probationary period.
• CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications are required.
• IS 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800 training are required or must be completed within probationary period.
• RCRA training must be obtained within probationary period.
• HAZWOPER current certification must be obtained within probationary period.
• Small Quantity Handler training must be obtained within probationary period.
• SPCC training must be obtained within probationary period.

• Monitor the oil and fuel levels of vehicles and equipment.
• Oil and grease moving parts of friction surfaces of mechanical equipment.
• Deliver and pump fuel.
• Fill lubricating systems and oil containers.
• Regulate the flow of oil to moving parts.
• Burn waste oil.
• Report machine defects or malfunctions.
• Maintain and clean equipment and shop.
• May be required to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, holidays and weekends and may be 24-hour on-call.

Job description

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Monitor and maintain the oil and fuel levels of vehicles and equipment.

Maintain Health Card and other Certifications.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License or Obtain a Valid AKCDL within the first 6 months of employment (with Hazardous Material Endorsement) that meets North Slope

Borough insurance criteria; and OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification.

Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800;

Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.

Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.

Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.
