Job summary

North Slope Borough is seeking a capable driver to operate Borough vehicles safely, transporting freight, supplies, parcels and mail in compliance with all traffic laws and borough policies. You will handle shipping/receiving forms, maintain logs and assist with vehicle and facility upkeep.

The role may require non-traditional hours, on-call status, confidentiality of client information, and compliance with health department safety rules.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED
• One year of hazardous materials work experience
• Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria
• Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets NSB insurance criteria
• OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (8 Hour HAZWOPER) certification required
• Ability to pass FBI fingerprint background check within 60 days of hire
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training within probationary period
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within probationary period
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training within probationary period
• Ability to obtain SPCC training within probationary period

Responsibilities

• Operate Borough vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with traffic laws and Borough policies
• Distributes and picks up supplies, equipment and mail; loads and unloads freight
• Complete required paperwork, including shipping and receiving forms and delivery logs
• Inspects vehicle; checks gas, oil and water prior to departure and as necessary for safe operations
• Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles, facilities and equipment
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations
• May be required to work non-traditional hours including evenings, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status
• Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality
• Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies to prevent spread of diseases
• May be required to deliver meals on wheels
• Perform other duties as assigned

Summary or Purpose

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

• May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

• Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
• May be required to deliver meals on wheels.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

• High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience. NOT AT A&F
• One year of hazardous materials work experience. NOT AT POLICE & HEALTH
• Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria. NOT AT POLICE, HEALTH & PUBLIC WORKS
• Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets NSB insurance criteria. FOR POLICE, HEALTH & PUBLIC WORKS
• OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (8 Hour HAZWOPER) certification required. NOT AT POLICE & HEALTH
• Ability to pass FBI fingerprint background check within 60 days of hire. (Police only)
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Health Department:

Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit and documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
