Job summary

North Slope Borough is seeking a Vehicle Operator to safely operate Borough vehicles to transport freight, supplies, parcels and mail in Alaska. You will perform loading/unloading, complete shipping and delivery logs, and conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections.

This role requires adherence to safety rules and may include meals-on-wheels delivery in some shifts. Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED, plus hazardous materials experience and valid Alaska driver credentials.

• 1 year of hazardous materials work experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate Borough vehicles to safely transport freight, supplies, parcels and mail.
• Distribute and pick up supplies, equipment and mail; load and unloads freight.
• Complete required paperwork, including shipping and receiving forms and delivery logs.
• Inspect vehicle; check gas, oil and water prior to departure and as necessary for safe operations.
• Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles, facilities and equipment.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• May be required to deliver meals on wheels.

Job description

Operate Borough vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, Borough policy and procedures, and state and local regulations.

Distributes and picks up supplies, equipment and mail; loads and unloads freight.

Complete required paperwork, including shipping and receiving forms and delivery logs.

Inspects vehicle; checks gas, oil and water prior to departure and as necessary for safe operations.

Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles, facilities and equipment.

Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Health Department:

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.

Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.

May be required to deliver meals on wheels.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.

High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience. NOT AT A&F

One year of hazardous materials work experience. NOT AT POLICE & HEALTH

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria. NOT AT POLICE, HEALTH & PUBLIC WORKS

Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets NSB insurance criteria. FOR POLICE, HEALTH & PUBLIC WORKS

OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (8 Hour HAZWOPER) certification required. NOT AT POLICE & HEALTH

• Ability to pass FBI fingerprint background check within 60 days of hire. (Police only)
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Health Department:

Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit and documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
