Job summary

F. F. Hitchcock Company in Cheshire, CT seeks a full-time Oil and Propane Service Technician.

This role offers growth through our registered apprenticeship program and hands-on training within a supportive team. As an Oil and Propane Service Technician, you will perform combustion testing, preventive maintenance, tank work, and fuel conversions while traveling throughout Greater New Haven County and Central Connecticut.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Connecticut B-2 or B-4 license for Tech 2 and above
• G-2 license for gas piping work
• Willingness to participate in heating season on-call rotation
• Tech 1 candidates require no license; apprenticeship registration through the Connecticut Department of Labor will be provided

Responsibilities

• Perform combustion testing and system adjustments with specialized instruments.
• Complete annual cleanings and preventive maintenance.
• Assist with tank work and fuel conversions.
• Restore heat for customers during the coldest days of the year.
• Handle increasingly complex systems; at Tech 3 level tackle boiler and steam issues and callbacks.

Preferred qualifications include a combination of B-4 and G-2 licenses, strong combustion analysis skills using instruments, steam and boiler experience, oil-to-propane and oil-to-heat-pump conversion experience, S-2 or D-2 licensing, and technicians licensed in Massachusetts or Rhode Island who are interested in Connecticut reciprocity.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN OIL AND PROPANE SERVICE TECHNICIAN?

This is a full-time position, with employees reporting to a central location before traveling throughout Greater New Haven County and Central Connecticut.

In this role, you'll perform combustion testing and system adjustments with specialized instruments, complete annual cleanings and preventive maintenance, assist with tank work and fuel conversions, or restore heat for customers during the coldest days of the year. You'll have opportunities to handle increasingly complex systems, and at the Fuel Service Tech 3 level, you'll tackle challenging boiler and steam issues, resolve recurring callbacks, and help develop the next generation of technicians.
