Job summary

Department of Justice, Office of Human Resources is seeking a proactive Analyst II to perform complex analytical duties, manage PRA requests, and act as custodian for subpoenas. The role supports budget and procurement, participates in projects, and ensures compliance with state policies.

Responsibilities include reviewing DOJM updates, overseeing purchases, invoices and contracts, and leading OHR Operations initiatives with cross‑functional teams.

Job description

Are you a creative problem solver with critical thinking skills? Then this is the position for you! The Department of Justice, Office of Human Resources is looking for a highly motivated individual who enjoys working in a positive team environment to join our Operations Team.

Under the direction of the Supervisor I in the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Operations Team the Analyst II performs the full range of the more complex and varied analytical duties including, but not limited to, independently completing Public Records Act requests (PRA), acting as OHR’s custodian of records for subpoena requests, reviewing and monitoring OHR’s communications released to the department and Department of Justice Administrative Manual (DOJAM) updates, providing support for OHR purchases, invoices and contracts. The Analyst II will also be responsible for participating in OHR projects and work groups as a lead in OHR Operations to provide recommendations as OHR’s processes are evaluated for efficiency. Additionally, the Analyst II will assist with managing OHR’s budget and be an authorized purchaser in possession of a CAL-Card, with all transactions completed in agreeance with spending restrictions, purchasing logging procedures, and usage policies. The Analyst II will be expected to ensure Operations activities comply with departmental policy, fiscal soundness, the State's purchasing guidelines, and the Prompt Payment Act.

Working Conditions

This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently a remote centered position. The position will however require in-person attendance on a recurring basis. The selected candidate would report to Department of Justice headquarters in Sacramento when required for job functions, in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office when required are the responsibility of the employee. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.

Please note that the classification Analyst I contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 69.

  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working independently performing analytical and technical duties related to personnel projects.
  • Experience working with state control agencies and external customers, orally and in writing, to resolve complex personnel and/or budgetary issues.
  • Knowledge of civil service laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to budgeting, CalCard, procurement, and personnel records.
  • Ability to show initiative, take a proactive approach to work, and follow through on action items and goals.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of departmental staff, up to and including executive management.
  • Knowledge and/or experience managing projects.
  • Experience maintaining confidential information and records.
  • Experience managing multiple and changing priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment.
