Florida Institute of Technology is seeking Security Officers to patrol campus, deter crime, and respond to emergencies while coordinating with police, fire, and EMS. The role includes enforcing parking regulations, assisting with events, and monitoring campus activity to maintain a safe environment.
Responsibilities include patrols by multiple means, providing safety information, and preparing incident reports.
The Florida Tech Department of Security Officers are responsiblefor campus surveillance and the patrol of buildings to provide avisible presence that deters crime. Officers respond to allemergencies and routine calls for service in a timely manner andcoordinate effectively with police, fire, and emergency medicalpersonnel.
Additional responsibilities include providing general safetyinformation through daily interaction with the campus community,monitoring campus activity, special events, and parking areas,assisting members of the community, enforcing traffic and parkingregulations, and dispatching calls and answering campus securitytelephones.
The position requires minor physical exertion, including pushing,pulling, carrying, and lifting up to 25 pounds, as well as theability to stand and/or walk for extended periods without rest orassistance.
Department of Security Officers operate within a 24-hour,7-days-a-week environment. Due to the nature of the position,officers are expected to work an 80-hour pay cycle with afluctuating schedule, including nights, weekends, andholidays.
Security Officers are required to successfully complete all basictraining requirements and actively participate in the department’sField Training Program. Officers must maintain proficiency inweapons familiarization in accordance with departmentalstandards.
This position is considered entry-level and developmental innature; therefore, assignments will initially be limited in scope,with restricted independent responsibilities until requiredcompetencies and performance standards are demonstrated.

Florida Tech’s 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includesstatistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimesthat occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings orproperty owned or controlled by Florida Tech; and on publicproperty within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from,the campus.
The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported tolocal law enforcement agencies, campus security and other CampusSecurity Authorities.
