Florida Tech is seeking a Research Communications Coordinator to create and edit research-focused content for campus news, internal publications, and social media. The role includes reporting, writing, and coordinating with faculty and designers for the Florida Tech Research magazine and related projects.
The ideal candidate will manage multiple deadlines, demonstrate strong AP writing standards, and communicate complex scientific topics to lay audiences.
The Research Communications Coordinator is a cornerstone positionin university communications that is responsible for/involved inseveral key areas:
Developing, reporting, and writing content, includingdaily and weekly research-related articles and posts, internal newsarticles and content for the weekly campus newsletter, and socialmedia content, as well as news releases, longer-term,higher-word-count magazine pieces, and other material.
Carrying out multimedia work, including shooting andediting short videos, occasional still photography, and otherrelated duties as assigned.
Leading longer-term projects from inception, throughdevelopment and production, to on-time delivery. This is centeredprimarily on this position's role as editor of the university'sresearch magazine, Florida Tech Research (FTR), though otherlong-term projects may arise.
As FTR editor, this person will develop the story list in concertwith his/her supervisor; then research, report, and write thestories; work with designers and vendors on the production of the magazine; and carry the process through the mailing anddistribution process via preferred vendors.
Responding to media inquiries: Among the smaller elementsof this position, this involves presenting media requests to theappropriate subject-matter expert on campus (usually faculty) andscheduling an interview at workable times for the expert and themedia.
If the interview will be via Zoom or a similar mode, this personmay have to receive the Zoom link from the media and then share thelink with the expert. For on-campus interviews, this person wouldmeet and escort the reporter/TV crew to the expert's office and inmost cases stay until the interview is done and the media can bewalked back to their vehicle.
Given these research and media responsibilities, thisposition will work closely with faculty members to initiate andfoster connections and be aware of their research and areas ofexpertise. Developing faculty relationships is critical.

The numbers provided include crime statistics that were reported tolocal law enforcement agencies, campus security and other CampusSecurity Authorities.
