Tree Top Staffing LLC is partnering with a global automotive components manufacturer to recruit an OEM Business Development Manager (Automotive) in Michigan or Ohio. You will drive profitable sales growth with automotive OEM and Tier 1 customers, combining new business development with strategic account management.

You will translate customer requirements into commercially viable solutions, collaborating with Engineering, Product Management, Customer Service, Operations, and Manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years in business development, sales, or key account management in automotive design/manufacturing.
  • Experience with automotive OEM or Tier 1 customers and multi-stage sales cycles.
  • Proactive, hunter-oriented sales approach with ability to drive opportunity from initial contact to launch.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills across purchasing, engineering, and leadership.
  • Experience delivering technical sales presentations to engineering, commercial, and executive audiences.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary commercial contact for assigned accounts and coordinate communication.
  • Lead negotiations on pricing, contracts, and terms for sustainable outcomes.
  • Monitor account performance and provide forecasts and business reviews.

About the Opportunity:

Tree Top Staffing is partnering with a global manufacturer of engineered mechanical and motion solutions to identify an experienced OEM Business Development Manager focused on the automotive market.

Our client has an established international manufacturing presence and serves customers across a broad range of markets and applications. This position offers the opportunity to play a key commercial role in expanding the organization’s presence with automotive OEM and Tier 1 customers.

Position Summary:

The OEM Business Development Manager (Automotive) is responsible for driving profitable sales growth and expanding the company’s market presence with automotive OEM and Tier 1 customers.

The role combines new business development with strategic account management, including identifying new applications, building customer relationships, managing complex OEM sales cycles, and achieving revenue and growth objectives.

Serving as the primary commercial contact for assigned accounts, this individual will partner closely with Engineering, Product Management, Customer Service, Operations, and Manufacturing to translate customer requirements into commercially viable solutions.

Success in this role requires strong knowledge of the automotive market, disciplined opportunity management, and the ability to influence engineering, purchasing, program management, and executive stakeholders.

Experience within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment is required.

New Business Development:
  • Research target OEM and Tier 1 accounts, emerging applications, market trends, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Develop and execute account and territory strategies that create demand, generate qualified opportunities, and convert prospects into customers.
  • Build relationships across engineering, purchasing, program management, and leadership to position the company early in the customer design cycle.
  • Prepare and deliver value-based sales presentations, technical product demonstrations, proposals, and other customer-facing materials.
  • Maintain a disciplined sales pipeline with clear next actions, timing, probability, and forecast accuracy within the company’s CRM platform.
  • Represent the organization at customer meetings, trade shows, conferences, and other industry events.
Strategic Account Management:
  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key automotive OEM and Tier 1 accounts.
  • Create and execute strategic account plans that define growth priorities, key stakeholders, opportunity pipelines, and revenue objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to expand share of business through new applications, value-added solutions, and broader account penetration.
  • Serve as the primary commercial point of contact for assigned accounts, coordinating responsive communication and effective issue resolution.
  • Lead negotiations involving pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to achieve sustainable, mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Monitor account performance and provide timely forecasts, opportunity updates, and business reviews to sales leadership.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
  • Coordinate internal resources to support RFQs, quotations, product development, sampling, customer testing, validation, and successful program launches.
  • Translate customer requirements and market feedback into clear commercial and technical priorities for Engineering and Product Management.
  • Partner with Customer Service, Operations, and Manufacturing to align customer expectations with product availability, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Serve as the commercial lead throughout the customer engagement process and facilitate clear communication between customers and internal teams.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of experience in business development, sales, or key account management within the automotive design and manufacturing sector.
  • Experience working with automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier customers and managing complex, multi-stage sales or program development cycles.
  • A proactive, hunter-oriented sales approach with demonstrated ability to create demand from initial contact through specification, validation, launch, and ongoing product support.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to build relationships across purchasing, engineering, program management, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Experience preparing and delivering technical sales presentations to engineering, commercial, and executive audiences.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Results-oriented, organized, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed for customer meetings, plant visits, and industry events.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience selling technical products or engineered solutions to one or more major automotive OEM or Tier 1 accounts, including: Summit Polymers, Mitchell Plastics, MTNA, CpK Interiors, Inteva Products, Thermoflex, Yanfeng, Lear, Adient, Toyota Motor North America, FORVIA, Magna, Brose, IAC, Ford, General Motors, Stellantis.
  • Working knowledge of precision ball-bearing slides, engineered mechanical hardware, related applications, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using SugarCRM or Salesforce.
