Job summary

University of Iowa is seeking dependable Recovery Technicians for the Iowa City/Coralville area to support the eye bank mission. Roles involve surgical recovery of ocular tissue, travel to hospitals and facilities, and on‑call coverage as part of rotating shifts.

Responsibilities include donor verification, physical assessments, aseptic technique, tissue packaging, and documentation. Training pay is provided, followed by regular pay after completing training.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly.
• Comfortable working with deceased individuals.
• Strong fine motor skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50+ pounds.
• Good manual dexterity.
• Must be able to arrive at the office within 30 minutes of being paged to a case.

Responsibilities

• Verify authorization
• Confirm the identity of the donor
• Complete donor physical assessments
• Prepare the donor
• Obtain an adequate blood sample
• Perform whole eye enucleation or in situ corneal excision
• Use aseptic technique
• Package ocular tissue for transport
• Complete all required documentation
• Provide 24/7 coverage on a rotating on‑call shift (0000‑0800, 0800‑1600, 1600‑0000)
